Hi there! I'm Margaret Van Ginkel, so glad to meet you!
- Brass Tutor
I started playing the trombone when I was at primary school, going on to study and
play it professionally in New Zealand, Europe and England. Eventually I
turned to brass teaching, opening up the delights, challenges and benefits (for
there are many) of brass playing students. While my main training was as
an orchestral trombonist, I play and teach all the instruments of the brass
family and in all styles. I have always found playing with others one of the
really fun things about brass playing so I encourage the students to play in
groups, rock bands, the brass band and orchestra.
In my brass teaching I aim to engender a love of music and brass playing,
encouraging students to play music they know as well as broaden their
horizons. I work to establish excellent technique that will stand the students in
good stead throughout their lives and to help them develop their musicality
and creativity more fully.
