Hi there! I'm Tim Bower, so glad to meet you!

I teach because I want to demystify woodwind instruments and show students that learning music is an exciting adventure, not a chore. My goal is to make the saxophone, flute, or clarinet feel like a natural extension of a student's voice, focusing on building early confidence and the joy of playing songs together.
As both an itinerant teacher and the director of the Timaru School of Music, I am deeply invested in making quality music education accessible. Holding a Bachelor of Music (BMus) alongside 7 years as a professional performer in Japan, I bring a rich blend of academic training and international stage experience to my students. Returning to New Zealand, I channel this background into my lessons, balancing technical precision with creative expression. Whether guiding young primary students through their very first notes or mentoring high school musicians toward NCEA success, I love shaping the next generation of Kiwi woodwind players.
